Things to do

Markets & Restaurants
There are different local markets to visit every day of the week where you can buy fresh fruit, vegetables and local delicacies such as Foie gras, cured sausages and cheeses. In the summer there is also a weekly ‘producers markets’ and night markets at Duras, Eymet Villereal, Monflanquin, to name a few. Here you can sit outside and join the locals feasting on a variety of dishes and wines bought direct from the producers.  Libos has a market every Thursday morning.

There is a strong gastronomic tradition in this area, eating out is part of the French way of life. Lunch time is the best value with three course lunch menu from around 12 euros including wine.  Haute cuisine for gourmets, is also available and can be found locally, including the 1 Michelin star restaurant in Pujols (40 mins).  There are a couple of great restaurants in Gavadun.   Just  10 min drive away you can sit in one of the two restaurants at the foot of the stunning Chateau de Bonaguil.

Feasts and Festivals
During summer  throughout France, every village has a festival where you can eat out in the village square and often includes music and dancing. Talented artists entertain all ages at street festivals.  Classical music nights and Jazz festivals are also held locally.

Bastides
The Hundred Years War between England and France led to many local towns being fortified and walled by both sides in the late thirteenth century. Many of the beautiful 13th century Bastide towns of the region are within a short drive including, Monflanquin, Pujols, Castillon, Villereal, Monpazier and Beaumont. The larger bastide town of Villeneuve sur Lot is only a 30 minute drive and has a beautiful old cobbled town square, surrounded by housing Archways covering many lovely shops and restaurants. The bridge across the Lot offers wonderful views along the river and of the old town.

Castles & Churches
Our ancient region of Aquitaine is steeped in history with many churches and castles to visit. Some of these  places hold re-enactments and music shows during the summer. Medieval castles are major tourist attractions at Duras, Bonaguil, Biron and Monbazillac. Romanesque churches are another feature of the region and there is a fine abbey at Cadouin, with a good restaurant, pottery and market hall next to it.

Wine
The region of the Lot et Garonne is one of the most beautiful in south west France. The River Lot flows through a stunning landscape from Cahors and Figeac in the East across to Bordeaux in the West, hillsides, valleys and stunning countryside offering one of the largest orchards in Europe with its varied and fruit wines that benefit from the mild climate.

Situated further south than the more well-known region Dordogne, the Lot offers a more peaceful setting for relaxed holidays away from the crowds, even in the summer season.  The popular wine-growing areas of Bordeaux, Bergerac and Monbazillac are within easy reach where many of the vineyards are open for visits and tastings.
